The city of Queenstown is a land locked area of the South Island, located at the base towards the southwest. Home to some of New Zealand’s most spectacular scenery and lakes, Queenstown is a fantastic place to visit for keen photographers, those who love outdoor activities, and skiers, with the local glaciers providing some spectacular runs.
Queenstown offers an exciting range of extreme sports, such as white water rafting, bungee jumping, mountain biking and sky diving, though if you like to take things a little easier there’s lots of more relaxing pursuits than jumping out of planes! Here’s a rundown on some of the amazing things you can get up to in this fantastic city.
If you’re surrounded by some of the world’s most amazing scenery, then what better way to scoot around it than on a quad bike safari! Offering some of the best trails available in the country, Queenstown has never looked so good as when you are trundling around on a 400cc all terrain vehicle. Training and all equipment supplied, though you will require a driving license to take part.
Cruise the Milford Sound
With a lot of Queenstown activities geared towards those who like to take things to the limit, this amazing day trip is for those who like to take a more relaxed view on their holidaying experience! The day trip to Milford Sound is an unforgettable journey that features, rainforests; glaciers, waterfalls and a relaxing cruise on the deep waters of the fjord itself. Great fun for all the family, the Queenstown Skyline Luge is a great way to enjoy panoramic views of the amazing scenery that South New Zealand has to offer Take a cable car or chairlift to the top, then decide which track you want to descend down. The scenic route takes a more chilled out approach to the journey, though there is also an advanced track for those that want an extra thrill.
Treble Cone Skiing
One of New Zealand’s favourite skiing resorts, the extensive choice of runes and off piste excursions keep people flocking back to the Treble Cone ski area year in, year out. From experienced black run veterans to brand new snow bunnies, this mountainous range offers something for everyone with spectacular views that really need to be seen to be believed.
Just a few of the fun things you can get up to in Queenstown, one of the most exhilarating cities in the world. With so much to see and do, I’d be sure to spend a week here, as a weekend just won’t be enough.
